First Rendering

Richard Wagner: "Ring-Studie 01: Rheingold"

Berlin, Remise
Hannoversche Str. 3, 10115 Berlin
Dienstag, 05.Mai 2009, 19 Uhr
-Eintritt frei-

Regie: Johanna Dombois
Machinima-Produktion / Consulting Virtuelle Welten: YOUin3D.com GmbH
Real Life Kamera, Schnitt: Christian Asbach

Wagner mit Second Life, Second Life mit Wagner

O-Ton Wagner: "Kinder, schafft Neues!" > Schaffen wir also Neues!

Suicidal Tendencies in newBERLIN thwarted by SLinside

The huge german Second Life Community Portal SLinside.com
(slogan: everything for your virtual life) produced a tiny imagefilm in our virtual city.

Abstract: A female avatar (Megan Merlin) announces to jump from the roof(!?) of an apartment building due to her problems with SL.
But friends prevent the "suicide" by reminding her of "SLinside", where she got always help for any problems & questions so far.
Puh! That was a close thing! Thank god, we have SLinside!

BERLINin3D and SLinside have a long tradion of working together:
- thousands of inworld parties,
- real life events (e.g. the Second Life Community Meeting),
- a newBERLIN streetlife Forum on SLinside,
and the portal runs its headquarters in newBERLIN´s skycraper "Haus des Lehrers".

Talks on Boom Pearls in Second Life

Saturday april 18, at 18 - 21 (gmt+1) four positions for understanding art in online spaces as Second Life (SL) will be presented to discuss how art practice in an online world is part of Real Life (RL) and the art world.
The talks is part of the curated series Boom Pearls and can be seen offline at YOUin3D.com Office, Hannoversche Straße 3, Berlin, and online at Boom Pearls in Second Life, http://slurl.com/SecondLife/Phyllira/169/139/90.

Tommy Støckel and Pernille With Madsen both participate with art projects in Boom Pearls. Jan Northoff and Joachim Stein both uses SL for media productions without necessarily seeing it as part of the art world.

Tommy Støckel will talk about his practice. For this project he considered how an artistic practice can be carried out in SL, where the content of the virtual world is build by the users. His installation, Primitives Collection Field (2007), consisted of freebies build by other users in SL, thereby focusing on what makes SL different from the rest of the world.

Pernille With Madsens installation Endless Structure (2009), which can still be seen, is inspired of the vertigo experienced in the meeting with reality and different constructions or architecture. The possibility to emerge in her scripted construction is another example of artworks by participating artists who are all new in SL. With Madsen will talk about her projects in and outside SL.

Jan Northoff is one of the two founders of newBERLIN, a true to scale interpretation of the german capital in SL. After working with sculpture and massive installations in Real Life, he created a virtual city with a living community of Citizens Friends and Creators of the online international melting pot. So he also invites artists to catch up with the latest 3D realtime technology and online art scenes.

Joachim Stein will talk about the Terms of Service as basis for practice in Second Life. Stein is an experimental thinker and artist, who challenges concepts of reality, play and work. He improvises and constructs narratives by doing what seems absurd and by using found situations and constellations. In 2007 Stein initiated and helped realize a TV documentary about people’s lives in Second Life. During Ars Electronica 2007 he provided workout, diet and medication plans that helped people achieve their Second Live avatar’s body in real life. In his latest work he used Second Life as a tool for re-enacting and filming of a court trial about a copyright case he had provoked by deliberately using and altering a digital map without permission.

The talks will be documented and can be seen at boompearls.com after a while.

Kinsahsa 2.0 supposed to be the most successfull Mixed Reality Machinima ever

The Mixed Reality documentation KINSHASA 2.0 was produced in the context of the project "Why Democracy" and deals with the political situation within the Democratic Republic of Kongo as well as the possibilities of the internet to strenghten democracy. The film was realized making use of the virtual world Second Life®. The scenes that were shot inworld have been produced by the agency YOUin3D.com from Berlin. Director: Teboho Edkins.
Teboho Edkins was born in the USA in 1980 and grew up in mainly in Lesotho, but also Germany, South Africa and France and now lives in Berlin. He studied Fine Art in Cape Town, did a 2-year post-graduate residency at le Fresnoy, studio national des arts contemporains in France, and is currently in the post-graduate programme of the dffb film academy in Berlin. He has received numerous scholarships and prizes.
Teboho Edkins on stage after screening of Kinshasa 2.0 at Berlinale 2008 in Berlin.

Synopsis of the film:
Kinshasa 2.0 tells the story of how the arrest of Marie-Thérèse Nlandu, a woman from a prominent political family in the Democratic Republic of Congo, was publicised through the Internet and resulted in filmmaker Teboho Edkins visiting Kinshasa to see how the arrest has affected the family.

His film explores a tense, militarised Kinshasa, where it is extremely difficult to film, and using Second Life® – a 3D virtual chat program - he looks at his friend Carine’s attempt to keep in contact with her aunt Marie-Thérèse after she is released and goes into exile in Belgium.
The film moves between the real city and the heightened world of Second Life® accompanied by a silent observer – a wooden soldier that appears on the edge of most scenes observing, waiting, watching…

Login2headquarter

Daniel Moshel wrote on his login2life blog about his visit in our newBERLIN Headquarter:"On the day of my departure back to Vienna I spontaneously met Jan and Tobias from ‘You in 3D’. If you are looking for a perfect representation of you, your business, or whatever in SL (or even better in virtual Berlin), here you find some pretty amazing guys who make anything possible you even can’t imagine. But they do more than just business in SL, they are enriching the cultural life of Berlin as well as in SL in organizing loads of events and programs, also intermixing all levels of perception possibilities. I was pretty amazed by her office. Mainly it is divided into two rooms: The first room looks pretty neat with oversized printouts of virtual Berlin plastering the walls. Here Tobias team are representing almost a white collar image. If you step through the narrow gangway to Jan’s working place you are entering a world you thought it exists just in movies. But see for yourself."

Wer das reale Berlin besuchen will, sollte unbedingt vorher im SL nachsehen, was ihn interessiert!

Tja, was soll ich sagen?

newBERLIN Party Zones

I just found an awesome YouTube about party locations in newBERLIN made by Step5 Iceberg.
The clip starts with the famous electro smog(http://slurl.com/secondlife/New%20Berlin/11/239/30/), switching to the Siegessäule (http://slurl.com/secondlife/BERLIN%20Siegessaeule/128/128/31) and ending in the zenit club(http://slurl.com/secondlife/New%20Berlin/130/118/202), located in the sphere of the TV tower.

Tnx, Step5 for this club crawl... and step on!!

Berlin in the wild burning life desert

Burning Man is an annual art event and temporary community based on radical self expression and self-reliance in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada.
It already found his parallel event called "Burning Life" in the virtual world of Second Life®. Not less than 22(!!)simulators filled up with the coolest, funkiest, artiest SL shit. A must see!!
And, there is a "Berlin stage", with a ruin of the famous "Reichstag" in the virtual desert. Here the Teleportlink(SLurl). It was build by the avatars Edmund Faulkes, a Graduate student at Miami University who is using SL for his thesis research and Sebastian Saramago,an Architectural Designer. Awesome work, Edmund!
